Beginning Acting Classes
(A perfect fit for those who are new to Avalon Theatre Classes) |

Story Theatre: 5-6 year olds will explore dramatic, imaginative play through the use of age-appropriate costumes, character development, props, poetry and familiar nursery rhymes.
Emphasis in the following classes is on character development, script memorization, dictation, rhythm, beat and learning to listen to the other actors and actresses. |

| Mother Goose Theatre: 6 year olds who have completed Story Theatre, as well as 7 and 8 year olds who are new to Avalon Theatre will focus on the transition into the performance mind set utilizing "Mother Goose" stories. |

| Making Literature Come Alive: 9-11 year olds will memorize poetry selections from Shel Siverstein, Walk Shitman, Langston Hughes, and others. |
| |
| Making Literature Come Alive: 12-18 year olds will memorize selections from Joyce Johnson, Mary Oliver, Walt Whitman and others. |

Skits, Monologues and Dramatic Interpretation
(Especially for the actors and actresses who have completed their prerequisites) |

| Emphasis in the following classes is on character development through phraseology, facial expressions, gestures, gait and inflection. |

| Ages 7-8: (prerequisite is "Mother Goose") Selections are primarily from Shel Siverstein and Kristen Dabrowski. |
| |
| Ages 9-11: (prerequisite is "Making Literature Come Alive") Selections are from Richard Viorst, Carol and popular contemporary plays. |
| |
| Ages 12-18: (prerequisite is "Making Literature Come Alive") Selections are from Oscar Wilde and other popular playwrights. |

Comedy Improv
(Designed for the actors and actresses who have met their prerequisites and want even more!) |

| The art of improvisational Theatre will be taught based on "The Art of Making Moments" by Daniel Buck. Participants will learn the importance of moments, story, ensemble, character and audience awareness. Skill mastery will be practiced through Improv games. |

Shakespeare
Specifically designed for the Avalon Actors and Actresses who wish to explore the mastery of skills needed to perform selections from the master playwright himself. |

| Clues to Acting Shakespeare: Perfect for the beginner who is eager to learn how to read, understand and perform Shakespeare appropriately. |

| Shakespeare Monologues: (prerequisite: "Clues to Acting Shakespeare") Focus is on the appropriate performance of Shakespeare Monologues. Individual attention will be given to phraseology, scansion, meter and character development. |

| Shakespeare Scene: (prerequisite: "Shakespeare Monologues") Focus is on the performance of Shakespeare scenes. Emphasis is on building mind set characterization as it relates to the other characters, as well as the proper deciphering of text for clock cues. |

| Frequently asked question: If my 9 year old already took "7-8 Monologues and Skits", as well as "7-8 Improv", why must s/he take "9-11 Making Literature Come Alive?" |

| Answer: Each age group focuses on age appropriate skills. The 9-11 class will review some skills previously obtained, but will focus on attaining new skills that are appropriate for the 9-11 years old. |
